Synopsis

It's green lantern like you've never seen before as Ganthet locates Kyle Rayner, a struggling earth based artist and hands him the most powerful weapon in the universe...the last Lantern Ring....All this and he battles the deadly Ohm.Elsewhere Mongul escapes from the cyborg superman and vows revenge on the Green Lantern....It’s the aftermath of Kyle getting the ring, so he hops over to his girlfriend house to tell her the big news. They reconcile their differences, having broken up a week before because of Kyle’s apparent irresponsibility. She props him up on the couch as the bedroom is still off limits and they sleep. In the morning she wakes up first grabs her camera and gets a radio beat on a villain who’s stolen some electrical armor from Star labs. She rouses Kyle and they take off.Once their she tells Kyle to stay put as she will just take a few pictures and then they can take off. Kyle thinks about staying put but decides to instead play hero and flies off after the villain. He gets pummeled as he gets used to flying and creating constructs. In the end though he beats the villain cuts him out of the suit, saves the city and gets some damn fine pictures taken of him being all heroic.The crowd though mistakes him for Hal with a different hair color, since he is in Hal’s suit. Alex Pulls him away and they go for a walk on the beach at sunset. After they talk a bit she tells him to change his costume since it’s not really “His”. He does and we get the iconic fish mask classic edition Kyle suit! SweeetBack at the Slab a prison for super villains the guards get slaughtered by Mongul who swears to kill Green lantern and Superman! Includes Jack Kirby obituary. 1st cover appearance of Green Lantern, Kyler Rayner Rayner appeared as the Green Lantern on the final page of issue #50 and as Green Lantern throughout this issue
